ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY

The CM3 group has sought to officially formalize its commitment to Sustainable Development and the protection of the Environment.

automotiveEven though our companies have always produced in accordance with and in full compliance with the existing regulations governing this specific aspect of production, today, with the certification, the CM3 group formalizes its commitment in this area, further refining the distinctive characteristics of this topic.
The CM3 group has achieved a milestone by obtaining the certification UNI ISO 14001:2015 for both Companies, putting the common good at the forefront and clearly outlining its environmental policies.
The achievement reached today rewards the efforts already made, and it does not represent our final destination; our group will continue to commit to this factor, considering what is now an achievement as a new starting point for new objectives always aimed at improvement.

The activities in which we are engaged in this regard are numerous and well detailed in our Quality and Environment manuals.

The CM3 Group has been committed for years to a sustainable development path that values every energy resource, regardless of its type. Our goal is to reduce energy consumption by over 30% per square meter by 2025 (compared to 2005 levels). Special attention is given to production sites where 90% of total energy consumption is concentrated. We pursue solutions through continuous research into technologies that help us optimize and/or reduce consumption, especially in areas with machinery that may be outdated and offer fewer upgrade possibilities.

Technological modernization and the optimization of lighting systems are critical factors in achieving significant reductions in electricity consumption. In 2016, CM3 Polska undertook the replacement of all its lighting systems as a first step in the production areas, upgrading old lamps to modern LED technology, which enables a 70% reduction in consumption while ensuring higher lighting output (LUMEX).
Another implementation was the thorough cleaning of all the windows, both roof and side, to enhance the access of natural light into the building, thereby reducing the need for electricity usage when unnecessary.
To this end, CM3 Polska has invested in a specific lift to ensure that this cleaning is carried out regularly.

Water is essential for life, and its waste poses a threat to our future. The sustainable development path of CM3 Group also includes the commitment to responsible use of water resources. We are constantly engaged in reducing the cubic meters of water used by implementing electronic closure systems in staff usage areas (sinks, showers, etc.).
Furthermore, recognizing the need for improvement, we transitioned from our previous washing methods, which involved water usage in continuously filled tanks, to more efficient blasting systems. This change eliminated the need for excessive water consumption while ensuring the effective cleaning of our products. CM3 Group also initiated and consolidated audits to monitor specific water consumption, thus allowing us to simultaneously improve efficiency.
The next phase, which is painting, is carried out using water-based paints that ensure lower emission levels compared to more traditional and significantly more polluting paints, such as solvent-based paints.
The recovery of used or unused paints is done through collection tanks with a closed-loop water system. Periodically, specialized and authorized companies are responsible for the collection and disposal of such wastewater.
The next commitment undertaken by CM3 Polska was to replace the water-based system with a powder-based system in 2020. This system has already been in operation at the CM3 Italia facility since 2015.

CM3 Group recognizes the importance of energy supply from renewable sources as well. The quintessential renewable energy source is the sun.
We have already implemented a photovoltaic panel system for the electricity production on the roof of CM3 srl (over 1,500 square meters – 200 KW) in the previous years (2012), making the use of energy for our annual needs more sustainable and also creating a buffer for other users.
The same large-scale investment is also planned for the CM3 Polska facility.
This investment is expected to be made around the year 2025-2026, pending feasibility assessments in Poland based on economic returns.

CM3 Group classifies waste according to a shared and regulated reference framework at the national and local levels; their management is carried out by considering the different types.
The Ministry of the Environment and Land Protection identifies two main macro-categories to which each waste is attributed, based on its origin: :
- Category of Urban Waste. This category includes substances or objects that originate from human activities or natural cycles, which the holder has decided or is obliged to dispose of.
- Category of Special Waste Unlike the previous category, this category includes all substances or objects that originate from commercial, industrial, healthcare, and waste disposal and recovery activities; this encompasses equipment, machinery, motor vehicles, and similar items.
Based on the characteristics of the substances or objects, waste is divided into:
- Hazardous Urban Waste Although they have the same civil origin, the substances or objects that comprise them contain hazardous materials that require separate management from the regular flow of urban waste.
- Hazardous Special Waste This type also requires separate management from the regular flow of special waste because it contains harmful substances; this necessitates specific waste management aimed at eliminating its hazardous nature.
The waste management of CM3 Group is carried out according to:
1. Exclusive management by our suppliers
2. Exclusive management by municipal companies
We are committed to responsible management of all types of waste through various methods of collection, transport, disposal, and valorization. The methods are determined based on the type of waste, and ordinary/extraordinary collection plans are developed accordingly.
Paper, cardboard, and packaging materials are compacted directly by our staff at the internal collection points before being collected. This reduction in volume results in an environmental benefit, as it allows for more efficient use of the cargo space in transport vehicles, enabling the collection and transportation of larger quantities of material in a single trip.
The purchase and use of wooden pallets (Euro pallets) are also managed with particular respect for the environment, minimizing the need for replacements. Our staff conducts a thorough assessment monthly, selecting pallets that come from deliveries from other companies and are still usable and not hazardous for internal reuse.
With this aim, we practically reduce the purchase of new pallets to zero.
For the collection, disposal, and valorization of hazardous special waste, we have engaged various suppliers based on their know-how, specific equipment, technologies, and permits they possess to ensure the proper management of these wastes.

The management of CM3 Group aims to pursue an optimal organization of resources, aimed at making business processes efficient and ensuring full integration of the company with the surrounding external environment.
To this end, it is committed to operating in substantial accordance with the UNI EN ISO 14001:2015 standard.
The Environmental Policy is based on the following principles:
• Aim for continuous improvement of environmental performance
• Efficiently and effectively apply the requirements of applicable environmental laws
• Minimize energy consumption through a process of continuous improvement in the efficiency of production facilities
• Consider the product life cycle when defining its design characteristics
• Involve customers and suppliers in environmental issues
